Advice from Ms. KonMari

I’m just chilling on my day off when, out of boredom, I stumbled upon an old book I bought a few years ago at an import bookstore.

It’s a comic by Marie Kondo. Or KonMari, as she likes to be called. I don’t know why I’m acting like I know her, but that’s how it goes!

This comic, from that book, is about cleaning. It's packed with meaning but light and fun. I definitely recommend it!

Alright, so after a few years, I found myself casually reading the comic again. I was smiling to myself at certain parts. A lot of the techniques are still relevant and I use them often.

And then—!

Oh no. This shouldn’t be something new, right? I read it when I bought it a few years ago. But, but, but… ah, never mind.

But it can’t be denied that those words really hit home for me this year. I mean, the me from last year was probably still stubborn, so no need to ask about that. (Haha)

Back to the present. Reading that panel again, it’s kind of funny that the same thing can have different relevance at different times.

Right now, for example, I can say that I’m no longer stuck in the past. There are enjoyable things and lessons learned. But does that mean I’m ready to step confidently into an uncertain future? Upon reflection, it seems inaccurate to consider those two things the same.

On one hand, maybe I’ve only come halfway.

Because if we return to the previous point, being ‘not stuck in the past’ and ‘not afraid to face the future’ are two different things. Similarly, finishing one thing doesn’t automatically mean finishing the other.

Halfway there.

So what about the remaining half?

Alright, just one step at a time. Then another step. We’ll see how it goes.
